Types of Skiing

It is thought that skiing was originated as a means of transportation in the cold countries, where ski permit to people move one place to other. Actually skiing has been converted in a popular sport and classified in various types of skiing, which are practiced by across the globe.

Whereas Snow skiing as the most popular that involve a group of sport and activities that are accomplished on the snow and holding in common the use of skis, devices which slide on snow and attach with ski bindings and ski boots to people's feet.


Alpine skiing It is also known as downhill skiing in which skiers control direction and speed of their descent.	Heliskiing It is also known as Heli boarding that requires a helicopter to access ski area so it takes place in a mountain.	Backcountry skiing It refers to ski in rural places where there are not marked slopes or pistes.	Biathlon In this sport the skier has a rifle with a set distance to a shooting range of five targets during its descent.


Ski mountaineering It combines techniques of skiing and mountaineering in which skiers climb a mountain and down an line from summit.	Freestyle skiing It includes a serie of skiing techniques and acrobatics such as tricks, jumps, and others that skiers must do.	Ski touring It is a type of backcountry skiing in which skiers climb and descen slopes on skis so it requires special equipment.


Cross-country skiing It only needs a short learning curve so this sport is orientated for the whole family.	Monoskiing Monoskiing is similar snowboard so it uses monoski in which feet are attached and it also uses skiing poles.	Extreme skiing It is a style of downhill skiing but in more adverse condition that includes dangerous terrain and maneuvers.	Freeskiing It is practiced in mountains in which there are not groomed and market trails that include steep cliffs,etc.


Telemark skiing It uses the telemark turn as an essential element to work very well off-piste in which skiers make tricks.	Speed skiing It refers fast skiing that uses gravity and skiing techniques to descend a straight line as fast as posible.	Snowkiting It combines a power kite with skiing and snowboarding to move on frozens lakes, rolling plains and mountain sides.

Snowboarding It is based on surfing and skateboarding in which skiers descent a snow-covered slope on a snowboard.	Ski Jumping It refers to go down a take-off ramp and attend as far as possible so distance and style are important in jump.	Newschool skiing It involves tricks, jumps and rails but it is different freestyle skiing so it is made in terrain parks or backcountries.
