Skiing techniques

Practical pieces of advice to learn to ski.

Controlling dinamic balance
The development of ski depends straight of "dynamic balance", that is, it depends of our balance capability on our skis, when we are moving around land and great quantity of situations. The balance can be controlled with practice, besides require a perfect concentration. In fact ski requires a perfect balance among the correct realization of the technical motions. If the mental attitude is not the correct hardly we will be able to apply the technique.

The Wedge
Wedge is a very elemental way to ski, a learning method established like a transition toward the turns in parallel.

Wedge consists unto stopped in 'V', so the skis tips have to maintain join, while we separated the tails to the nines. Due to, the position in triangle of skis is called wedge, and this is used as stop system more simple. Using wedge technique we will be able to slow down, even this allows us quickly stopping.

It's important the perfect control of the wedge for any beginner, before giving the following step.

Basic stance
Taking into account that the main idea is the maintenance of the "Dynamic balance", next we will give a practical series of advices about the basic stance that we will have to have on our skis.

  • Feet
Feet are the more important element, not only because it is the part of our body more nearby to the snow, but because we must learn to use it, so that we will know in each moment what parts should lean on the ski.

In the first place we have to take into account that feet shouldn't come together, because when we turned we do it reclining the whole the weight in a single leg. This is done for two principal reasons:

    • If only one ski supports the force of spin, this will curve in an inverse arch more easily.
    • It is much more simple and dynamic to vary external leg to external leg to the realization of spins.
  • Ankles
Ankles must stay flexed, because this helps to flexion of the knees and to control the borders of the skis.

  • Knees
Knees must be folded, although ankles be right, knees should remain flexed. This is the unique position that allows us manipulate the ski borders and cross them.

  • Hips
Hips are, along with the pelvis, a vital region in any exercise of dynamic character that we do. Because it is the part that joins all fours with the superior trunk and is primary this union come true in free form, without oppositions.

  • Arms
Arms are the agent of equilibrium. When we be in unbalance we will try to place our arms in front and on the sides to keep standing. Besides, the arms through the hands, they hold the poles, which are useful to us like supporting point.

  • Head
A good skier is recognized for he always holds the glance fixed toward in front. If we tried to look toward the skis or any other zone, we will move our head and this could cause an oscillation that would finish with the equilibrium created.
