Adirondack Mountain School
Located in the heart of the Adirondack High Peaks, AMS takes advantage of a wealth of opportunities for mountain adventure right outside our door. Join owner/guide Jesse Williams for a sunny day on the rock, perched high above narrow mountain passes and spectacular fall foliage. Try your hand at ice climbing and the sublime challenge of finessing your way up a frozen waterfall. Leave the ski lifts behind and learn the art and science of backcountry ski touring and telemark skiing. Embark on a remote backcountry climbing expedition deep into the High Peaks or build your skills and endurance for bigger mountaineering ambitions.
Services:
If you are new to backcountry skiing, then a day of private instruction will give you a good introduction and a progression of skills to work on. If you are an avid alpine or nordic skier now and are somewhat familiar with backcountry skiing, then a day or two of private guiding- classic ski tours like Mt. Marcy or Wright Peak- are reccomended.
If you are a serious backcountry skier, then a more ambitious ski mountaineering tour onto one of the High Peaks' many backcountry slides will add mountaineering skills to the experience and introduce you to techniques for steeper and more exposed terrain.
