Mt Hood Academy
The Mt Hood Academy is an accredited high school located in Government Camp, Oregon. The Mt. Hood Ski Education Foundation, following the guidance of Mary Gunesch, founded the high school in 1985 and opened its winter program with four students. Since then the Academy has grown, averaging 15-20 students per year over the past 15 years.
Services:
The MHA J3 Team is for 13 and 14 year old ski racers. This program is designed to prepare racers for the first competitive level of USSA racing. Competitors who are graduating from the Mitey Mite level will find this a great way to get started in USSA racing. Skiers new to ski racing are also welcome to sign up for the MHA J3 Team.
The J3 team trains together much of the time, and travels together to PNSA J3 races. J3 competitors do not have an extensive race schedule, traveling off Mt. Hood for only 2 or 3 weekends each season. However, for those who are ready for more competition, additional racing is available.
Weekend training begins with Thanksgiving Camp and continues through early April. Additional training days include Christmas Camp and other holiday or “no school” days. J3 athletes are encouraged to participate in Mt. Hood Alpine Development projects, taking advantage of MHA’s academic assistance while training with other J3’s from around Mt. Hood.
